I looked at the mechanical 1008 for a gift, but I could not tell if it has a blanket stitch?Does it have the foot petal with heel tap to raise or lower the needle?I am guessing that it does not have needle stop down or the FHS.Does anyone here have or know this machine? Thanks,Diane in MD

I found two informative links on the Bernina 1008 machine. One is the Mastery class workbook, and the other is the brochure - both in pdf format:Mastery Workbook ---Links-Are-Forbidden--- 1008 Brochureh**p://www.burda.bernina.com/webautor-data/2/Salesflyer_1008_GB.pdf

The brochure clearly shows each of the 16 stitches available on the machine. The one that looks most like a blanket stitch is actually a stretch overlock stitch; however, you could probably use it if you don't mind that it's slanted. I don't believe it has the electronic foot controller with the needle up/down feature because this is a very basic machine.I'd definitely go to a Bernina store and ask for a demonstration, particularly with respect to the stitching techniques you're interested in. ~GayleH

Are you certain the 1008 has a blanket stitch because I don'tsee one? What's the stitch number? Maybe my information is out ofdate.

Afaik, these are the 17 stitches available on a 1008:

Straight, zig-zag, blind, universal, stretch, vari-overlock,running, scallop, triple straight, triple zig-zag, toweling, double overlock, edge, reinforced overlock, and 2 decorativestitches...neither of which are a blanket. There's also abuttonhole.

Thanks, Nancy! My info was old (I wasn't looking at an actualmachine) so I thought there might have been a change since ablanket stitch is sort of a basic stitch to me.
