Uhmm, It's been a while since I had a 180, but I'm pretty sure it does NOT use

Active Sync. It has a serial connection and uses a USB-to-serial adapter to do

the communications because most computers still around and working don't have

serial ports anymore. So, what is important is buying a USB-to-serial adapter

that has a driver that works with the kind of operating system on the computer

your friend is using. For a while during transition, if your computer is

Windows 7, you had to be careful to get a brand of adapter that the manufacturer

had developed a driver for Win7 for the adapter.

If I'm wrong about this, I'm sorry for the confusion, but I'm pretty sure the

only sewing machines that ever used Active Sync for communications are the 200

and the 730, which are the only Windows-based sewing machines.
