Actually it does make a difference, you would think it wouldn't but it does. I was told the software actually used different technology when using the black sizing handles vs. Object Properties box to rescale. I asked Kim Goodwin at OESD about it when we were doing the Floral Visions quilt with Susan Fears, this is the first place I remember seeing the instructions saying to use the sizing handles (solid black handles) instead of the object properties box. The following is from my email to Kim and her reply:

To Kim:

Out of curiosity, do you know why we are instructed to use the handles instead of the Object Properties > General Tab or the 20% rescaling icons? Knowing the correct answer, instead of guessing would be really helpful to me.

I found this Sewing Information has been added to the Color Sheets starting about June 2009:

"Some designs in this collection were created using unique special stitches and/or techniques. To preserve design integrity when rescaling or rotating designs in your software, always rescale or rotate designs using the handles directly on-screen."

From Kim:

We find when you use object properties that sometimes it does not retain the stitches are they were originally digitized but in most cases if you use the resizing handles it does. This is more with the specialty stitches and fills. We also found that it may appear to retain them in the software but when you send it to the machine it does not. Hence a safety net to re-size by handles. The software uses different technology to re-size by handles vs. object properties. I talked to the developer and this is what we found to be the best method.

I just happen to know this because we had this issue when proofing our designs so had to figure out what was going on.

Not just a simple answer, but hope this helps. KG

I did ask if this would be fixed in V7, I know it was turned into the software developers, so we will see whenever the new version comes out.

Thanks, Pam. I knew I remembered this! It was Susan Fears who said this at a training class I went to a couple years ago.
