Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a 3 series for a second machine to backup my

I notice that the 3 series have snap on feet, and I've read earlier here

(natch!) that the foot pedal from the 440 will work on the 3 series, but

what other compatibility facts are there?

- are the bobbins the same (I hate keeping track of different bobbins)

- can the snap-on feet be used with an extension on the 440

- does the patchwork foot from the 440 fit on the 3 series

- do the 440 magnifiers fit on the 3 series

- anything else?

And how is the reliability of the 3 series so far?

Yes, the bobbins are the same.

Yes, you could buy an adapter and still be able to use the snap-on feet

with your aurora (but why would you want to?) You should have all of the

same feet for your 440, only in the better one-piece style.

Yes, the #37 Patchwork foot would also fit on any of the 3 Series models.

I'm not sure if the Magnifying Lens attachment can be added to the 3

Series or not, so that's something to check on. I know the FHS can be

added to the models that don't come with it standard, so it's logical

that the Lens Assembly can be added as well.

So far the new owners I've met like their machine. The only thing that

concerns me is their more limited warranty period when compared with

previous Bernina models.

I just bought a 350PE a few days ago to take with me to class and as a second machine to my 640E.

I did not like the presser feet that came with it so for a nominal fee my dealer exchanged them for the snap on feet.

I also had the FHS added as I am lost without it. This was also done at a reasonable price.

My dealer threw in (at no cost) an additional in-house warranty

of two years. So my 350PE has a three year warranty from date of purchased.

It is just as sturdy as my 640 and I'm getting used to it. My 640 got me so spoiled with all it's nice features but the 3 series IMHO

will not let you down. So far, I am happy with it. I did not think much of it but I'm surprised it was much more than what I had expected!

What is a FHS?

It stands for Free-Hand System. It raises and lowers the presser foot with your knee.

LOL, it's more the other way around. I would want to use my 440 feet on the 3 series.

Thanks for the info, everyone!
