I have a Bernina 430, which I love. I just finished a quilt and decided to clean and oil the bobbin area. After I was done, the machine makes a quiet clunking sound. I re-threaded the bobbin and also the top thread and checked everything else. All seems to be okay and it sews fine - the stitches look good. Should I be worried about the clunking sound? Does it have to go to a tech? Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.Sandy

I have a new 350 with the same problem: when starting a line of stitching, it makes a "clunk" sound, then proceeds to stitch perfectly. It's jarring, but I took it in and had the tech look at it, and wouldn't you know? She refused to make the noise! He cleaned and oiled the bobbin area, re-threaded and sent me home with her. I was so sure she was fine. Plugged her in, started to stitch, and..... CLUNK. He assured me that I wasn't hurting the machine, so I just grit my teeth at the start of each line of stitching....

Is this a continuous clunking sound? My 630 does this. It is not nearly as quiet as my other Berninas and I mentioned it when it was recently serviced. It still does it.Leslie

It doesn't just make the clunking noise at the beginning, it continues the entire time that I'm sewing. That's what had me worried. It seems to sew fine and the stitches look good, but the noise worries me

That clunking sound would bother me too. If it's a new machine, it should be under warranty and they should be able to do something. I'll be in Florida soon and our tech George is excellent. I'll try to speak with him about it. Just remind me in two weeks. It usually does that with me if there is a piece of thread caught, but if the tech cleaned it that shouldn't be the problem. Seems to me like there might be something loose or out of line (hitting something when it starts). But it's not normal!

Sorry I can be of no help to yiu. But this conversation got me thinking. This is my first Bernina. And I'm wondering I have a new 770QE and mine makes a clunking type sound when I first start it up? I just assumed this was normal? Now I wonder???

Is this noise part of the normal start up???

By the way good luck with your clunking!!

Both my Artista 730 and Juki F600 make a clunking noise the very first time I power on the machine(s) and turn the hand wheel such as when pulling up the bobbin thread. I assumed this was normal especially since both of my machines make the noise at start up.Claudette (RI)

My 710 makes a 'clunking' sound when Inturn it on. I though that was normal?

The noise a Bernina first makes after being turned on is due tothe stepping motors engaging/calibrating and completely normal.Sometimes it is referred to as the "Bernina burp." Any clunkingsounds after this are not normal and your technician should take apeek at your machine.

I have a 440 that makes the burping noise and has since it came out of the box.. It is similar to the sound of a computer printer aligning itself to print.. I just assume it is a function of a computerized model setting the mechanical parts to prepare for sewing.. The older mechanicals do not make this sound.Just my thoughts
