Hi Folks, anyone have a clue as to why I am having problems programming a4-digit address into an Athearn Genesis UP 4-8-4 with an MRC decoder? Weare set up with a programming "amplifier" (Can't think of the propername). All I get is No-pgm when we try to read or write.

Thanks,

Jerry,The earliest MRC sound decoders, including many installed in Athearn Genesis, did not support Service Mode programming on a programming track. They MUST be programmed using Ops Mode programming on the main track. Perhaps the decoder in your locomotive is one that must be programmed in Ops Mode. The instruction manuals Athearn supplied with these models had instructions on how to accomplish this.If you need help let me know and I will either try to write out the steps, or talk you through the process in a phone call. It will be either late afternoon or early evening (Eastern time) before I can get to this.FWIW, my experience helping a friend with an MRC equipped Genesis opened my eyes to the value of Ops Mode programming. It is faster and more reliable than service mode programming. Also, no additional hardware (i.e. Programming Track Booster) is required; more $$ for another decoder! I program using Ops Mode, paired with DecoderPro for nearly 100% of my programming. I very rarely use the programming track, and then only to set the address on decoders that dont allow setting an address in Ops Mode.HTHRoss Kudlick From: Digitrax@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Digitrax@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Saturday, November 7, 2015 8:27 PMTo: Digitrax@yahoogroups.comSubject: [Digitrax] Athearn Genesis with MRC decoder

Does the Super Chief have pd or pg programming? I have the DB150 and use the pd or pg to program on the main. You have to have all locos off the track except the one you want to program. Never had a problem writing CVs using thie method. Joe

All the Chief variants - DCS100, DCS200, etc - support 4 modes of programming; PO, PD, PG, Register.
