How can I safely remove the shell of a DCC ready Athearn SD60 in order

to plug in a DH163D? The breakout diagram shows tabs at the bottom of

the shell.

Thank you,

Peter

Hey Peter, I can answer that for you.

Simply remove the the coupler boxes from the slots on the front and rear pilots and the shell will come off with ease. Be careful though not to detach the wires that connect the light board to the front/rear lights. Your decoder will attach to the 9-pin harness which is integrated on the board, simply remove the jumper from the harness and plug in?the DH163D.??

To: Peter

There are plastic tabs on the shell that snap into corresponding slots on

the frame in the general area of the fuel tank. **In theory** one should

squeeze the shell slightly in the area of the fuel tank and these tabs will

release the shell from the frame. Then again **warp speed** for

inter-stellar travel is also a theory.

I have attached a (dated) document that may give you some insight into

removing the shell. You may have to use a jeweller's screw driven to pry

the tabs loose from the frame, working from the underside of the locomotive.
