Hi,

I am new to Digitrax but not to model railroading. I have a Digitrax

Zephyr and have tried a few analog engines with various successes.

Some run good and some run at half speed. I am anxious to install a

decoder in a Bachmann PRR K-4 locomotive. I bought this Spectrum

engine and PRR passenger set quite a few years ago.

I planned to install a DZ143 decoder. When I removed the cover I

discovered the motor and wiring was entirely covered up by a motor

weight. I spoke to Bachman who provided no help at all.

Is there anybody out there in "Digitrax land" who has experience with

this particular installation? I would appreciate any help provided.

Doc

Doc:

I'm assuming you mean the Spectrum K-4. If so, the decoder goes in the

tender. There's a plug in there that will except a "P" decoder. Very

easy install.

Jeff,

I think he has the old one. I had one and I ended up milling out the

weight, tapping screw holes in the weight and a few other things. I was

a long time ago (pre-1997) and I put a Digitrax DH-82 in it. The I

watched it wobble down the track (it did that before I put the decoder

in).. It gave new meaning to the term Botchman. I eventually gave up on it.

You are correct it is the old Bachman Spectrum. I am looking for

some help on the wiring. If it is possible I would like to add the

decoder, if not I would have to buy a BLI K-4 which would be a lot

more expensive.
