Would it be possible to keep only the voltage of the micro up, which would

reduce the size of the needed capacitor?

The flywheel could help the loco across bad spots and cares for smooth

running.

The only problem I see is the need of a diode e.g. between voltage

regulator and the micro, needing quite some knowledge about the decoder

design.
