james@... has been banned.

In the defence of "james", I also rec'd the same virus this morning from

another unrelated source. The subject line of which also read "new photos

from my party!". It's possible that this was an automatic message generated

by the virus and not deliberately sent by james@...

Is it not possible for the list administrator to set the list's parameters

to automatically strip all attachments thus avoiding virii from being

transmitted via the list?

Cheers

Roger:

The problem is that this has already been done. That file was not

actually marked as an attachement, but was encoded and included in

the actual message body. As it was plain text and not marked in the

email as an attachment, the filter for attachements didn't catch it

because to the filter, it looked like a normal message.

Unfourtunately, computers only know what you tell them, and it hasn't

been told that that attachement is actually an attachment.

As a moderator of 5 lists on Yahoo and a member of 30, YES you can

set the list to strip attachments. Many moderators of the Canadian RR

lists have all adopted a no-attachment policy.

Sure. If 'james' is a real person I suspect he will contact me when he fixes

the infection on his computer and then notices that his address is blocked

from this list. At that time, I will be happy to welcome him back. My action

was not punitive, just protective. > Is it not possible for the list administrator to set the list's parameters

I've answered this one several times so HEY EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS

(polite yelling) the ldsig list is configured to block all attachments. It

appears that the virus-infested e-mail received today was formatted

'incorrectly' to be recognized as an attachment by Yahoo. Unfortunately, it

was recognized by many e-mail applications as an attachment.

Generally, it is a bad idea to open an attachment unless it was expected.

Now get back to working on that layout! :-)

My pleasure, Roger. I don't know much about model railroading, but I

live and breathe computers. Hopefully I'll soon know enough to do all

sorts of wonderful magic with them. :)

Mike & List,

FWIW, I got the attachment twice, on two different days, and I get the

DIGEST version! First time that's ever happened. And my Norton AV didn't

catch it either!

Let's be careful out there . . .
