The Layout of the Month Photo for August 2013 is from Josef Bingisser's HO scale Garage Fold-Up Line in Costa Mesa .
This layout is located in a two-car garage that also shelters the owner's vehicles. This is accomplished through a unique benchwork design which features folding sections that retract to within two feet of the walls, thus allowing full vehicle access.
The layout has two loops of track on the bottom level and one on the top plus staging areas. The featured railroad is the Union Pacific set mostly in the 1940-1960 era. The geography setting is freelanced. Most locomotives feature sound and many of the buildings are detailed and illuminated. A highlight of this layout is a large, scratch-built container ship and container crane. Scenery was ninety-five percent complete the last time I talked to Josef. It has been a while so I'm sure Josef has made some changes.
