Hi Ed,

Have you ever been in touch with Betty Dilworth?

My 4th great grandfather Roger Chapman was born Norwich,

Norfolk about 1753. He married Jean Lyon believed to be

from Fetteresso, Parish, Kincardine. The first two of

their known children were born in Monikie Parish,

Forfar/Angus in 1777 and 1778. Their remaining children

were born in around Stonehaven, Kincardine between 1780

and 1790. Roger was a coachman employed by the Barclay

family at Ury. My first question is how Roger ended up

in Stonehaven from Norwich. It has been suggested that he

may have been employed or recommended by the Gurney

family of Norwich, a Quaker banking family with close

personal and professional ties to the Barclay's of Ury.

Were Robert Barclay and his son Robert Barclay Allardice

Quakers as were his ancestors? If so, could Roger

Chapman have been a Quaker even thought his children were

baptized in Monikie and Fetteresso Parish or were Quaker

births recorded seperately? Any suggestions on how to

proceed?

Thanks

Ed Chapman
