A v50 just came in to Music Swop Shop in Carlton.$250 with a dead floppy drive. ---Links-Are-Forbidden--- 35207

Very reasonably priced! Tx81z, with effects, drum machine, sequencer.Actually, more like a TQ5 than anything else!

I owned one for years. It's one of my favorites!

I didn't care much about the sequencer and drummachine.

Even without these the V50 beats the TX81Z and the TQ5 on several points:

- 16 voice polyphony

- DVA (dynamic voice allocation) to make more efficient use of these 16

voices in multitimbral mode.

- More DSP effects than TQ5

- Floppy diskdrive

IMO it's a shame the V50 OPZII/YM2424 soundchip was never used in any

other instrument. (was it?) I would have liked to have sort of a "TX81Z-II"

rackmodule using this chip. Maybe a nice DIY project for someone to

develop :-)

I have seen people say on the internet that a TX81Z sounds better than a

DX7, which I think is nonsense. The extra operator waveforms cannot

compensate for missing 2 completely programmable operators.

But I do think the 4-op synths like the TX81Z and the V50 have their own

specific sonic charm which distinguishes them from the 6-op

DX7/TX7/DX7II/TX802.

It looks like prices are even better here in Japan, maybe I should buy that one I have seen for 80 USD... :-) The next one was for 150 USD approximately.Daniel Forro

And not to forget the most important difference: 100 internal 100

external multitimbral performance memories! The TQ5 (YS100, YS200) only

has one (1)

!
