So I am thinking of buying 2 TF1s and putting them in a single rack space chassis.

I though it would be easy to do a power supply for them, but now I see something about a "master clock" that the rack frame also supplies to the modules.

I've seen a couple of TF1s in Google photos running stand alone. Anyone know about this stuff?

I'd love to swap out my TX802 for the 2 TF1s . I love the low fi sound.

Rubbish, keep the TX802 and sell the the TF1's for good money, reason is the TX802 is more modern and has better midi implementation although yes a full TX816 rack is better, french university and all that.If you want lo-fi just get an original dx7 then you will have lo-fi everything including the membrane buttons and shitty midi

yes charles or use a tx7,good point some great atari software for

that ,well actually THE best software for editing a tx7 I'm not into

the PC stuff just doesn't pull my pisser

This is for my live gig rack. I deliberately limit myself to 8 rack spaces. I have a TX7 too, love it, but it does not fit in to the rack.

My question was a technical one. Can anyone answer it?ThanksStublito

Peter,

The TF1 will not run without the 9.4265mhz clock frequency. It appears as though Yamaha wanted to be certain all the TF1 envelope generators and FM ops chipswere synced together. This would allow the huge layered sound with all of the voices triggering at once. When I usemy DX7 and TX7 together they do not trigger exactly the same. This gives a pseudo stereo effect but not the huge layered effect that th eTX816 is capable of. You could install a clock in eachTF1 and also have a master to sync them but that's another mad scientist experiment for someone with nothing but time on their hands. (Maybe Tommy Shaw? He, he...)

Thanks Fran. I have feelers out on eh TX816 group also. ..Someone there is suppose to have a schematic.

I remember years ago a European firm put out a 2 rack space chassis for 2 TF1s.I'll let yo guys know how I make out.Peter

There were 8x, 2x and 1x TF1 chassis outside of the "real" 8x Yamaha

rack, of course. There is a schematic in the service manual of the

TX816. I'm not sure it exists but if someone has a service manual for

the aftermarket TXracks that would be a good place to start at trying to

recreate it.

I don't imagine that it's that complex since the aftermarket shells came

rather quick on the heels of the official product, afaik.

Take care,

Hi!

*** Sorry If two similar sounding emails come through - it seems that my emails are blocked on the group! ***

I have such a double TF1 unit in 1U rack unit - made by Jelinghaus as far as I know.

Ciao

Hi Peter!

So I changed my emails settings and so my emails come through!

The German company that made this device was Jellinghaus as far as I know.

I have one of these units but there is no company name on it.

I once opened it and made photos - that I could send to you if you want.

(Just found the photos on my harddisk).

If more people are interested I can put photo in the groups photo directory.

Beside the power supply you need the master clock board. In my unit there is

a 9.216MHz crystal on the board.

Hi Peter!

Yes it can be done. A German company - I think it was Jellinghaus made such a thing some years ago. I have one (but there is no company logo on it). So if you need photos I can send them to you or if more people are interested I can upload some to the photo section. I also have photos of the opened device where you can see the power supply and clock board.

And Yes, beside the power supply there is a master clock circuit board inside (9.216MHz).

Ciao

Peter
